Dr. Litam awarded the Outstanding Scholar in Research Award from the National Board for Certified Counselors

The Outstanding Scholar Award was created to recognize the most noteworthy article published in The Professional Counselor (TPC) each year. In 2013, TPC expanded the award to include two Outstanding Scholar Awards, one in each of two categories: quantitative or qualitative research and concept/theory.

Dr. Stacey Diane A. Litam received the 2019 Outstanding Scholar Award for Quantitative or Qualitative Research for her article, “She’s Just a Prostitute: The Effects of Labels on Counselor Attitudes, Empathy, and Rape Myth Acceptance.”

Dr. Litam awarded the Charles “Chuck” Weaver Award from the Ohio Counseling Association

The Charles “Chuck” Weaver award is a prestigious award given to “one who has shown long, consistent and distinguished service to the counseling profession and who has shown exemplary caring for people.”

What an honor to receive an award that recognizes my social justice advocacy, research, and clinical work with diverse marginalized clients and sex trafficking survivors!

Ongoing Research

Now more than ever, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voices must be heard. I am conducting research to examine the effects of discrimination against AAPI in the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings will be used to develop strategies that promote AAPI mental health and wellness.

The first step to dismantling racism is to make our voices heard and inform the systems that can advocate for us, while advocating for ourselves. Unless we label our experiences, they remain invisible and out of our awareness. Help build the case against racism EVEN IF you don’t think you have experienced discrimination.

Please complete the short 10-15 minute survey and pass it along. Participation is confidential and any AAPI over the age of 18 who resides in the U.S. is eligible to participate.
